Udo Dirkschneider Music Award to Support Young Musicians from 2027
Wuppertal, Germany — Steven Mageney has joined forces with fellow music enthusiasts to create new opportunities for the next generation of musicians.
When it comes to successful musicians who have their roots in Wuppertal, one name stands out above all others: Udo Dirkschneider. The legendary singer, known worldwide as the former frontman of Accept and as the driving force behind U.D.O. and Dirkschneider, began his remarkable career in Wuppertal several decades ago.
It was therefore particularly fitting that Udo Dirkschneider returned to the Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal, a venue closely connected to the beginnings of his career, to receive the founding document for the newly established Udo Dirkschneider Music Award (UDMA).
Beginning in 2027, the foundation will support young musicians in three different categories. In addition to financial and material assistance, the award will provide recipients with something truly special: direct access to Udo Dirkschneider’s decades of experience as one of Germany’s most influential rock and metal vocalists.
As part of the initiative, Udo will personally share his knowledge and experience with the award winners through workshops, offering young artists valuable insight into life on stage, musical development and the professional music business.
The press conference was also attended by Doro Pesch, another internationally renowned artist with strong ties to the German rock and metal scene. Doro later joined Udo on stage for the “Balls to the Wall 40th Anniversary Show,”adding another memorable chapter to a day celebrating Wuppertal’s contribution to rock music.
With the Udo Dirkschneider Music Award, a new platform has been created to give talented young musicians the support, resources and personal guidance they need to develop their careers.
