Live Review: Corrosion of Conformity @ Gebäude 9

After a blast of “Best of Judas Priest” roared over the PA, the volume cranked up another notch as “Forever Amplified” pummeled the crowd for 30 or 40 seconds. Then, wrapped in a haze of blood-red light, Corrosion of Conformity took the stage and tore right into their set.

They were loud—devastatingly loud for a venue the size of Gebäude 9. After a few songs Keenan pointed to the ceiling “somebody turn off the fan, it’s killing my weed…”. The stage was packed old school with stacked amps, plus the PA system.

The room wasn’t quite stretched to full capacity, sitting at a comfortable 60%. Between the steep ticket price of €44 (hitting the absolute upper limit for a club this size) and an unforgiving Tuesday summer heatwave outside, it’s easy to see why a few casuals stayed home. But for those who braved the heat and the door price, the energy was electric.

COC gave it everything they had, and the crowd matched them step-for-step with full, sweat-drenched engagement. Fists (some beer bottles as well) in the air, shout-outs and head-banging all through the night, but no stage diving or violent mosh pit fits this style of music. albatross and Clean My Wounds (my absolute favourite) were left to the end of the 90 minutes setlist.

Sound & Mix

What really set the night apart was the mix. All too often, bands pushing this level of sheer decibel power get swallowed up by a muddy, low-end wall of bass and kick drum. Not tonight.

Guitars: Delivered that signature, thick, Sabbath-inspired southern crunch—heavy and full-bodied without turning to sludge.
Vocals: Cut cleanly straight through the heavy wall of sound, staying front-and-center rather than getting buried under the riffs.

Proof that even in a heat-soaked, just a cut above of a half-packed room, COC remains an absolute powerhouse live.
