NEVERMORE returned to the stage in 2026 after an approximately fifteen-year hiatus. Following appearances at Bloodstock and Wacken, the band arrived at Kunst!Rasen with a completely revamped lineup. What unfolded was a performance that combined remarkable technical precision with genuine emotional weight, demonstrating that this comeback is far more than a nostalgic exercise.
Jeff Loomis and Van Williams provided the unmistakable backbone of NEVERMORE’s sound, preserving the power, complexity and intensity that have defined the band for decades. At the same time, Berzan Önen made an immediate impression, proving that he is not simply stepping into the enormous shadow left by Warrel Dane. His powerful voice and commanding stage presence gave the reformed band a distinct character, while Jack Cattoi and Semir Özerkan showed that they are much more than supporting musicians, contributing significantly to the band’s renewed energy and stage presence.
The eight-song set opened with “Beyond Within” and moved through “Inside Four Walls,” “Final Product,” “The Heart Collector,” “Born,” “Narcosynthesis,” “The River Dragon Has Come,” and “Enemies of Reality.” The 45 minutes set left little room for hesitation, with the band moving from one demanding song to the next and showcasing the technical firepower that remains at the heart of NEVERMORE’s music.
Of course, the new lineup will need time to fully establish its own identity in the absence of Warrel Dane. That is an almost impossible legacy to step into, and comparisons are inevitable. Yet Kunst!Rasen 2026 felt like an important statement of intent. Rather than simply attempting to recreate the past, NEVERMORE demonstrated that they possess the musicianship, energy and potential to carry the band’s legacy forward while gradually building something of their own.
