For more than a decade and a half, Béatrice Martin—better known as Cœur de Pirate—has been one of the most defining voices in French-Canadian pop music. Her career began almost casually, with a few songs posted on MySpace—intimate sketches that felt more like secret diary entries than a formal debut. Yet, her distinctive timbre—a blend of melancholic clarity and youthful defiance—quickly spread well beyond Quebec. Within a few months, Martin had become an international name, with her first album climbing the charts in both Europe and North America.

Martin has since spoken openly about the struggles that lay beneath that early, effortless-seeming exterior—battles with panic attacks, external expectations, and internal resistance. Her songs have always functioned as a kind of coded self-diagnosis, in which hope, vulnerability, and defiance exist in close proximity. Having studied piano at a conservatory as a child, composed soundtracks, ventured into purely instrumental music, and repeatedly had to recalibrate her life, the artist has made a practice of not hiding her private experiences, but rather transforming them into art. Perhaps this is precisely what accounts for her profound resonance: Cœur de Pirate gives her listeners the sense that they are witnessing a deeply personal—and at times, painfully honest—process.

With her return in “En cavale,” the work feels simultaneously like a fresh start and a return to the very essence that brought her fame. On stage, she bridges the fragile intimacy of her early material with a confident, radiant pop sound—one that has grown larger, clearer, and more visceral. Her new live shows are carefully crafted journeys through various moods and musical chapters, alternating between quiet, piano-led moments and powerful sequences in which Martin commands the stage with dance. It is an art form that does not conceal the ruptures in one’s own biography, but instead transforms them into energy—an invitation to be swept away for ninety minutes by sound, gesture, and light. In the autumn of 2026, Cœur de Pirate will arrive in Germany for two concerts: a rare and all the more compelling promise of an evening that will not soon be forgotten.
