The Sisters Of Mercy

Support: Real Farmer

The Sisters of Mercy have been active for over 40 years; despite not releasing new music for more than three decades, they have achieved legendary status. To this day, the band led by mastermind Andrew Eldritch sets the benchmark for their unique brand of rock. This autumn, they are embarking on an extensive tour of Germany.
A blend of punk, psychedelic, industrial, and David Bowie influences—plus a few spicy dashes from other genres—was all it took to create a completely new sound in the early 1980s. Formed in Leeds in 1980 and named after a Leonard Cohen song, The Sisters of Mercy demonstrated—with great success—just what music could sound like during the post-punk era. Their 1987 album “Floodland“ brought their major breakthrough, featuring tracks like “Dominion,” “Lucretia My Reflection,” and the epic, ten-minute-plus opus “This Corrosion”—songs that continue to fill dance floors with their monumental sound to this day. The follow-up, “Vision Thing” (1990), marked a stylistic evolution; while it featured a harder, more metal-influenced sound, it retained the band’s signature drum-machine style and lyrical ambiguity.
In the 1990s, Eldritch shifted his focus from releasing recorded music to performing live. Although The Sisters of Mercy have not released an album since then, their popularity and influence have only grown over time. Alongside bands like Bauhaus, Joy Division, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, and The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy formed a solid foundation upon which generations of musicians could build.
It is not just the band itself that is legendary, but their live shows as well. Today, Eldritch and the drum machine “Doktor Avalanche” are the only remaining members from the early days—a fact that does nothing to diminish the band’s sound. With their defining catalog, this musical project—featuring a rotating lineup—guarantees magnificent concert experiences and evenings that never even hint at nostalgia. This is ensured by fantastic cover versions and, of course, the songs of these legends—tracks that are old yet remain eternally fresh. This autumn, The Sisters of Mercy are embarking on an extensive tour of Germany to once again radiate their captivating aura.

Note: the show at Palladium in Cologne is sold out!
