Tame Impala at the Lanxess Arena, Cologne

After playing sold-out shows worldwide in 2025 and 2026—including five dates in Germany this past spring—Tame Impala announced a return to Europe for the summer of 2027 earlier this week. Due to high demand, an additional show has been added immediately; consequently, Tame Impala will stop at Cologne’s Lanxess Arena on June 18th as well as the 17th to perform material from the hit album *Deadbeat*. The English indie-rock band Wet Leg will serve as the supporting act for both dates.
This marks the latest in a series of milestones for the Australian artist: the song “Loser” was recently featured in *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, climbed to number one on the Global Spotify Charts, and reached the top 25 of the Billboard Hot 100, while the “Dracula (JENNIE Remix)” remains in the top 10. “Dracula” also earned a nomination in the “Best Alternative” category at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. With *Deadbeat*, Tame Impala has delivered a record that once again demonstrates how his sound skillfully shifts between past, present, and future—striking a chord with audiences in the process.
Over the past decade and a half, Kevin Parker has carved out a unique career under the name Tame Impala, transforming from a bedroom producer in Perth into one of the most influential musicians of his generation. His love for music began in childhood; at twelve, he was playing riffs in his parents’ bedroom, and by fifteen, he was emulating Jimmy Page. When The Dee Dee Dums won an Australian campus band competition in 2007, the path was cleared for a fresh start: a better name—Tame Impala—and a mastermind obsessively immersing himself in his own sonic worlds. With *Innerspeaker* (2010), Parker catapulted psychedelic rock into the present day, while *Lonerism* (2012) cemented his reputation as a detail-obsessed studio perfectionist. By the time *Currents* (2015) arrived, he had taken the radical step of moving away from a retro sound toward synthetic elegance. Finally, *The Slow Rush* (2020) brought a commercial breakthrough, hitting number one in several countries and leading to worldwide tours.
*Deadbeat* follows in this vein, yet in a new, raw way. Inspired by Western Australia’s rave and “bush doof” culture, the record sounds like a return to Parker’s roots—albeit under entirely different auspices: it is minimalist, featuring crisp textures, yet driven by an euphoria felt just as keenly on the dance floor as through headphones. Tracks like “Loser,” the epic “End of Summer,” and the viral hit “Dracula” blend hypnotic club atmospheres with Parker’s signature knack for instantly memorable melodies. Lyrically, however, the album strikes a darker tone: Parker paints a portrait of a perpetual “deadbeat”—a self-deprecating loser caught in a loop of his own mistakes—and turns that very experience into art.
Yet, as much as Tame Impala remains a one-man studio project, the songs truly come alive on stage. Light shows merge with reverberating basslines and guitar riffs that ripple through hazy venues, while entire arenas are swept up in trance-like movement. Parker has a gift for combining introspection with collective ecstasy—a rare balance that has made Tame Impala festival headliners at events ranging from Glastonbury to Coachella. For many fans, the concerts are more than just a performance; they are an immersive high that shuts out reality for hours on end.
