How many bands can proudly claim to have released ten studio albums while remaining one of Germany’s most popular live acts for over two decades? Not many—but Madsen will soon be among them. On May 29, 2026, the Lower Saxony-based band will release their tenth album, “Smile”. Madsen announced this news during a sold-out concert at Hamburg’s Sporthalle. Fans at the show even got a live preview—while the rest of the world will hear the title track, “Smile,” when it drops in late January.
It has been over 20 years since brothers Sebastian, Johannes, and Sascha Madsen—along with bassist Niko Maurer and former member Folkert—released their self-titled debut album, “Madsen”, in 2005, following years of making music together. Just a year later, they released “Goodbye Logik”, an album that remains a cornerstone of their discography, followed by a rapid succession of further releases. Their most recent full-length album, “Hollywood”, came out in 2023 on their own label and marked the band’s first-ever number-one record.
These 20 years have seen the musicians evolve from their initial punk and indie-rock sound to carve out their own unique musical niche, producing countless hits such as “Lass die Musik an,” “Du schreibst Geschichte,” and “Macht euch laut.” Above all, it has been two decades in which the group has risen from a local live act in the Wendland region of Lower Saxony to headlining festival stages across the country. Epic, sing-along choruses and punk-rock energy have given the band’s performances a special edge since their inception—as has the incredible bond they share with their fans. It comes as no surprise, then, that alongside their already confirmed summer open-air shows, the guitar-driven band has announced an extensive tour of Germany for next year to coincide with the new album. They will bring “Smile” to the stage a full twelve times in the autumn of 2026—and will certainly also include other highlights from their more than two-decade-long career. To set the mood, there will also be an album release show in Hamburg’s Stadtpark in June.
