Five years after his last full-length release, American actor and songwriter David Duchovny returns in the summer of 2026 with his fourth studio album, ‘Prince of Pieces’. Alongside the album, the’X-Files star has announced a European tour; starting October 13, the New York native will bring his latest work—a blend of timeless roots-rock and singer-songwriter pop—to live audiences in Cologne, Berlin, and Hamburg.

A fixture on screen for over three decades—known for roles such as FBI Agent Fox Mulder (The X-Files) and Hank Moody (Californication)—the multi-talented Duchovny has explored other creative avenues in recent years. He recently published his first poetry collection, *About Time*, and has enjoyed great success with his podcast, *Fail Better* (featuring guests like Ben Stiller and Bette Midler). In the summer of 2026, he turns his focus once again to his musical passion, presenting his new studio album, ‘Prince of Pieces’.

“Singing in public used to be my absolute greatest fear,” the Hollywood star recently remarked in an interview, expressing surprise at the central role music has come to play in his life. In fact, Duchovny was already around 50 years old when he discovered the guitar—on the set of Californication—and began songwriting. Now 65, he effortlessly follows up his acclaimed previous albums—Hell or Highwater (2015), Every Third Thought (2017), and Gestureland (2021)—with Prince of Pieces.

After initial demos and song sketches were created at home with a few longtime collaborators (Colin Lee, Mitchell Stewart, and Pat McCusker), the goal was to ensure the studio sessions maintained that same grounded, unpretentious, and intimate vibe. “It all sounds completely organic and rooted—a bit like seventies rock,” says the actor and songwriter, who reveals that, once again, he developed “most of the song ideas on acoustic guitar.”

“There are so many cool images and metaphors to discover in David’s lyrics,” says bandmate Colin Lee regarding the writing of Duchovny, whose key influences include Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Lou Reed, and Leonard Cohen. While the Golden Globe winner often steers his grounded alt-rock sound toward pop, folk, or roots-rock (as on “Catherine’s Wheel”), the new album also features experiments with piano and horns (“Born To Last”) alongside spirited, brief excursions to “London.” Incidentally, the new album was mixed by Bob Power—shortly before his death—who was otherwise best known for his work with rap and R&B icons such as De La Soul, D’Angelo, and Erykah Badu. The themes of his songs remain the same, however: “For me, it’s always really been about love and loss, hope and perseverance. That’s likely how it will always be.”
